The Leader in Me is a whole school transformation process, started by educators and is research based. It teaches 21st century leadership and life skills to students and creates a culture of student empowerment based on the idea that every child can be a leader. McDonough School will be taking on this very intensive process this school year in the hopes of creating our own culture of self-motivated, independent leaders. Content from The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen Covey is a key component of the overall The Leader in Me initiative.
Our school-wide focus for the month of December is Habit 1, Be Proactive. This habit is focused on taking initiative, being accountable, and doing the right thing without being asked.
I am sure you have already heard students talking about The Leader in Me. Please use this same language and talk to your child[ren] at home about Habit 1 and what they are learning here at school. We will continue to keep your informed as we progress through the year.
